The company was established in 2013, when the city council decided that district heating should be expanded to cover as much of the municipality as possible. Before 2013, there was only district heating in three small areas.

    At present, the heat is produced on solar panels, a biomass boiler, two gas engines and four wood pellet boilers.

    The city council have decided that natural gas should be phased out from the production by 2025 at the latest. Therefore, the two gas engines must be scrapped and replaced with other heat sources.

    At the same time, district heating have to be expanded. The city council have currently approved projects where 1600 new customers can be connected. The City Council is about to approve another project that means that another 5000 customers will have the opportunity to get district heating. The district heating expansions will result in a 5-fold increase in heat sales.

    The heat for the new customers will be produced on air-to-water heat pumps, heat pumps on wastewater and surplus heat from businesses. Another option is interconnection with other companies to cover a part of the heat demand.
